“Acoustic Adventures” by Richard Gilewitz is a performance of complex and energetic works that become stories from 6 and 12 string guitars⸺ delivering invitations to each listener to embark on a lively journey through the past and present realm of musical compositions. As Gilewitz incorporates his own personality and orchestration into a sound tunnel of timeless compositions, a musical platter erupts that spills over with colorful imagery of samples from European, Contemporary, and Spanish Classical pieces to the Traditional Folk, Blues and American Primitive eras.
Known throughout the international arena of entertainers as an uncommon soloist, fingerstyle acoustic guitarist, composer, and leading fingerstyle teacher, Gilewitz is a master of moods who plays a kaleidoscopic mixture of selections that is certain to satisfy the preferences of any member of the audience. Such artists as John Fahey, The Beatles, Arlo Guthrie, Leo Kottke, JS Bach, and classical master David Walbert have heavily influenced his fingerstyle techniques. In a span of over four decades, Gilewitz has developed a repertoire that combines both standard and unique tunings in originals and arrangements. Each single note treated as an individual character in a society of notes to achieve a very distinctive sound with a voice of its own.
Based in Florida, Gilewitz’s worldwide touring takes him from the bottom tip of New Zealand to the edge of northern Scotland, throughout Europe and North America with stops in-between. In addition to being well known for his gifted guitar wizardry, his accounts of life on the road confirm that he’s an entertaining raconteur who can spin stories with the best of them. This engaging artist, who loves interacting with his audience, offers an event of great guitar, unusual tales from his travels, and a sense of magical festivity.
