Diane Hendricks and her late husband, Ken, founded ABC Supply Co., Inc. in 1982 and have never lost touch with their roots.
Diane is one of nine sisters and grew up as the daughter of small dairy farmers in Wisconsin. Ken, also born and raised in Wisconsin, was the son of a roofer. He grew up working side by side with his father and witnessed firsthand the obstacles his father and his roofing colleagues faced from more powerful suppliers.
Within three years of meeting each other, Ken and Diane bought about 100 homes in the Beloit area. They did most of the work on the homes themselves, with the help of Ken’s father. Together, Ken and Diane’s mission in life was to form a world-class company while vowing never to forget the working men and women who are the backbone of America.
While they continued to invest in real estate they always planned to get into wholesale roofing distribution. Eventually the opportunity to start their dream presented itself and they opened the first ABC Supply store in Beloit. Soon thereafter they acquired three more roofing stores that were for sale in Springfield and Belleville, Illinois and in Muskegon Heights, Michigan. This was 1982 and a recession was on. Ken and Diane used collateral on their real estate holding to finance the purchase. This was the beginning of the fulfillment of a dream and the creation of ABC Supply Co. Inc., which now has more than 700 locations and 12,000 associates nationwide, and is the largest wholesale distributor of roofing in the United States and one of the nation’s largest distributor of siding, windows and other select exterior and interior building products.
Hendricks Holding Company, formed in 2001, represents a continuation of Ken and Diane’s dream and is comprised of businesses that all share a common passion for the principles that Ken and Diane followed, and continue to follow, in pursuit of the American dream: respect, opportunity, hard-work, entrepreneurial spirit, commitment to family, giving back to the community and pride in the greatest country in human history — the United States of America.
